USBC High School, Dexter to Annually Honor High School All-Americans
March 10, 2006
GREENDALE, Wis. - Dexter Bowling and the United States Bowling Congress High School program jointly will honor 10 high school bowlers from across the nation as members of the inaugural Dexter/USBC High School All-American Team.
The All-American team will consist of five boys and five girls chosen annually from eligible nominations starting with the 2005-06 school year. Selections are based on high school bowling accomplishments, community involvement and academic success. Each team member will receive a $1,000 scholarship and an All-American team award to be presented at the 2006 USBC Junior Gold Championships, held July 8-14 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
In addition, the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame in St. Louis will display a plaque to honor the members of each team. The inaugural team will be dedicated to the memory of Jim Mailander, who served as Dexter's general manager and was instrumental to the company's support of youth bowling programs.
"We're excited to partner with Dexter and honor outstanding high school bowlers with All-American team awards," said Jeanne Klescewski, director of USBC High School and Collegiate. "Dexter has long supported the USBC High School and Collegiate programs, and they share USBC's commitment to the future of bowling."
"We are proud to partner with USBC on this worthwhile program," said Bud Clapsaddle, national sales manager for Dexter. "The growth of the bowling industry will come from the youth of this world. It is time that we acknowledge these athletes for the hard work they put into the sport they love."
To be eligible for consideration, nominated student-athletes and their respective teams must be registered in the USBC High School Team Membership program for the current school year. Student-athletes must be nominated by their high school coach or athletic director.
Selection to the Dexter/USBC High School All-American Team is based on the student-athlete's bowling accomplishments from the current school year, academic achievement, letters of recommendation, extracurricular and community involvement, submitted essays and resumes. Minimum requirements for selection include a 3.0 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) and at least one letter of recommendation.
Nomination forms for the Dexter/USBC High School All-American Team are available online on the High School section of bowl.com and must be postmarked by April 1 for consideration.
